lyrics

Lyrics by Ryan Graham

I'm not a stroke of your brush, constructed carefully. So don't expect me to be something that I'm not. I keep letting you down when all I want to do is prove I'm greater than the sum of all my parts.

My father showed me the meaning of integrity, and since then I have balanced on the edge of compromise. And I swore I heard what he said to me, but I had rain in my ears, and in my eyes. I was a kid back then who didn't dream, I settled for complacency, cause I had dreams and they were terrifying. That's when I gave up on his will for me, and carved out my own history to prove that I was doing more than trying.

What are my words for if they were never really yours? Would you still love me if I had never gone off course? I thought I'd buried the hatchet long ago, but it became a seed and I watched it grow. Now control is something out of my control.

Pride is something I'll never understand, the dividing line for all the times you could've been a bigger man. Sadly a tragedy is what it takes to make you think, when I almost died that summer day at the bottom of the creek. But I dried off and I cleaned up and now every day looks a little brighter than before. It was grace that taught my heart to fear and showed me who I'm fighting for.

What are my words for if they were never really yours? Would you still love me if I had never gone off course? I thought I'd buried the hatchet long ago, but it became a seed and I watched it grow. Now control is something out of my control.

Let's talk about our issues and how I'm to blame and how I never do anything until it's too late. We built our house on nothing but sand and now I'm waiting for the rain to make it right again. Let's talk about the time, how we're not getting younger. We laid out in the grass and we burned that summer. We built our house on nothing but sand and now I'm waiting for the rain to make it right again.
